Faith

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here is an official link to our beliefs.

And below are links to some of my own writing. They are a mixture of personal religious experience and an exploration of additional supporting evidences. My faith is based on the religious experiences, so why bother with additional supporting evidence? I have asked myself this question many times and have from time to time been reluctant to share publicly my thoughts. Should I just stop at providing the link above to our official core beliefs? However, I have recently been encouraged by the words of Elder Jeffrey Holland: “In making our case for the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, I believe God intends us to find and use the evidence He has given—reasons, if you will—which affirm the truthfulness of His work.” (link). Religious experience came to me when I was very young, long preceding an exploration of other evidence. But for those who become adults prior to religious experience, an exploration of other, non-religious, evidences may motivate seeking a religious experience. By non-religous evidence, I mean only that they can be explored with mental reasoning. Ultimately, for many, there is likely not sufficient motivation to make long term and sustained religious commitment without the religious experience, which means in the most strait forward explanation, a confirmation from God, a witness from His Spirit, that he is there and has a plan for us.
